Honda of America Manufacturing’s auto plant located in East Liberty, OH (ELP) has earned its ninth consecutive ENERGY STAR certification in 2014.
Established in 1989, ELP is a 2.1-million square-foot facility that is home to nearly 2,400 associates. More than 4.5 million vehicles have been built in this facility including the segment-leading Honda CR-V compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV), the Honda Crosstour crossover utility vehicle, and the Acura RDX luxury SUV.
ELP benefits from the real-time monitoring system in place that allows associates to identify areas where energy use can be eliminated during non-use periods. In 2013, ELP created a new on-site consolidation center for the efficient distribution of parts throughout the plant. The consolidation center saved the use of 483,000 gallons of fuel from delivery trucks and eliminated 4.915 metric tons of CO2.
Additionally, innovations in the paint booths have greatly reduced energy usage, as have the introduction of direct-fired water boilers that efficiently heats water for use throughout the plant.
