In 2008 Oak State Products (Oak State) started the journey into sustainability and resource conservation. The realm of sustainability and resource conservation was new to Oak State and its? employees; understanding was the first step. A sustainability program was developed with employee understanding at the top of the list, employees were informed what sustainability was and how they impacted Oak State?s sustainability. Also in 2008 Oak State became an ENERGY STAR partner.

One of the first facility steps was to identify areas of energy savings.  Oak State converted its? lighting system from metal halide to T5 and T8 fluorescents. Occupancy sensors were installed in warehouse areas to automatically turn lights off when spaces were not occupied by employees. Gas meters were installed on ovens at each oven zone to better track their performance during baking. Additionally, older areas of the roof were resurfaced with a lighter color material; previous material was black.

A resource conservation team was assembled from volunteers in the facility, representing all departments within Oak State. This group develops and implements energy and cost savings ideas. The team also continues with the education of plant employees through plant wide training programs.

Oak State Products is deeply committed to their partnership with ENERGY STAR.  Oak State earned the ENERGY STAR certification for the first time in 2010.
