Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC (HMIN), located in Greensburg, IN, began mass production in 2008. As the newest Honda automotive plant in North America, operations include stamping, welding, painting, plastic injection molding, assembly, and testing - all within the 1.3 million square foot facility. HMIN’s 2,300 Hoosier associates proudly build the Civic Sedan, Civic Natural Gas, and Acura ILX models.
HMIN incorporates the latest technologies to achieve energy-efficient operations. With the start of two full shifts in late 2011 and the energy characteristics designed into the plant allowed it to achieve ENERGY STAR certification in each of the last three years, beginning in 2012.
HMIN's energy efficient technology includes paint booth designs that minimize the volume of temperature-controlled air, as well as systems to facilitate heat recovery and recycle exhaust air.
This plant also incorporated a building management system to optimize the control of heating, cooling, and lighting needs, producing savings in the amount of 4,200 metric tons of CO2.
