The Titan America, Roanoke Cement facility was constructed in the late fifties and had been built to have 5 long dry kilns. In the 90's Titan invested in modern cement technology that put the preheater tower at the end on one kiln and eliminated the other four kilns. This conversion has made this plant one of the most energy efficient plants, earning the plant the ENERGY STAR award in 2007 and 2008.
Titan America has initiated a comprehensive corporate energy management program that looks at the entire cement production facility, starting with light bulbs and ending with the production control of two 5500 horse power cement mills. Under this program, Titan America was able to reduce the Roanoke Cement facility total electric power consumption by 5% from year 2007 to 2008.
One of Titan America's core values is a commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and the Energy Star program plays a key role in guidance to achieving the best use of energy. Our current objective is to further reduce the total KWh/ton by an additional 5% and we expect to achieve this through the Energy Star partnership program.
