The Holcim (US) Ste. Genevieve plant is among the world's largest cement-producing facilities with operations beginning in late 2009. The Ste. Genevieve plant was constructed on a Greenfield site utilizing only 1,700 acres of its approximately 3,900 acres.  The approximately 2,200 remaining acres are being preserved as a conservation easement.  This facility has the ability to produce 4 million metric tons of an ASTM/AASHTO Type I/II low alkali portland cement. The process control system integrates with a fully automated lab which allows for continuous feedback during every stage of the manufacturing process.  The plant also has sophisticated emission controls and multi-staged combustion.

This state-of-the art plant is one of the most efficient in the world, demonstrating how environmental protection and economic growth can coincide. This plant has the most electrical energy efficient kiln in the United States on a per ton of production basis (94 kwh/ton). The latest technology in high efficiency lighting decreases the plant's lighting load by 70% over traditional plan lighting methods. The extensive use of variable frequency drives to reduce power when not required reduces electrical power usage. The use of intelligent control systems to maximize throughput on power efficient vertical grinding mills allow for the most efficient grinding of raw materials.

2010 is the first year the Holcim (US) Ste. Genevieve plant earned the ENERGY STAR.
