The community in which the Fairborn Plant operates has always been a top priority and is actively engaged through education, government, and volunteerism. The plant is continuously seeking ways to reduce the environmental impact of its operations by balancing materials demand with a commitment to environmental sustainability. Various awards and recognitions have been presented over the years for both its community outreach and environmental achievements. Investments in technology and optimization of current operations, has proved to reduce energy consumption and environmental impacts.
Good energy practices continue to be implemented by the CEMEX Fairborn Cement Plant, guided by the plants energy team which is supported by the company’s Energy Management Program based on the ENERGY
Energy conservation efforts of the plant include:
– New Compressed air system installation yields a power savings of 2.44 million kWh annually. In addition a rebate was received from DP&L for this energy reduction.
– Improving thermal energy efficiency of kiln line through process optimization
– Improving energy efficiency of raw mill and finish mill through process optimization
– Installation of Variable Frequency Drives on key components; previously not capable of running at optimum performance.
As a result of the above-mentioned energy conservation measures, the plant has conserved 0.32 MMBtu/ton KK in thermal energy and reduced electrical energy consumption by 9.5%.
