Titan America Pennsuco Cement Company (a subsidiary company of the Athens-based Titan Group) is located approximately 20 miles northwest of the resort area of Miami, Florida. In 2002, Titan America modernized the clinker production facility by adding a new 1.6MT/Y dry process that replaced two less efficient kilns. Titan America's goal was to double their cement production without increasing emissions, while achieving reduced power consumption.

Pennsuco attained its first ENERGY STAR award in 2008. In addition to the inherently efficient design of the new pyro-plant, such as a vertical raw mill, a low energy consuming CF homogenizing silo, variable frequency drives and efficient compressors, several steps have been implemented to further reduce power consumption and save on Pennsuco's considerable electric bill.

Pennsuco reduced the specific grinding consumption at the raw mill by 7.6%, set all electrical rooms thermostats to maintain 80F from 60F and placed a greater emphasis on power consumption reductions. This effort resulted in a 20MWh reduction that has reduced the Titan America electric bill by $1.6M.

Titan America holds Continuous Improvement and Corporate Social Responsibility as two corporate values. The ENERGY STAR program is aligned with these values and will assist in maintaining high efficiency and operational excellence.
