Marine Corp Air Station Miramar

MCAS Miramar (Miramar) covers roughly 36 square miles of land use and has more than 1,310 buildings that support Marine, Navy, Air Force and Army training, as well as civilian law enforcement, and an airfield that is home to approximately 200 military airplanes. Annually, Miramar manages funds of approximately $133 million. Miramar, the Department of Defenses (DoD) pilot net-zero installation, leads the way in the DoD for energy innovation. Energy efficiency measures include a sophisticated digital monitoring and control system for buildings, upgrades to heating and cooling systems, thermal heating for the pool and boilers, and a comprehensive program for energy conservation and awareness. Renewable energy measures include the use of solar photovoltaic systems on carports and outdoor lighting and a power purchase agreement with the City of San Diego for a 3.2MW methane-to-energy landfill, which provides roughly half of the installations energy needs.
