South Dakota Public Utilities Commission

The SDPUC consists of three elected at-large Commissioners, each serving staggered, 6-year terms. A staff of professionals works with the Commissioners to carry out the duties of the PUC. The PUC ensures utility companies in South Dakota provide safe, reliable service at fair and reasonable rates. The Commission regulates investor-owned electric, natural gas and telephone utilities; helps resolve customer and utility disputes; operates the South Dakota Do Not Call Registry; administers the states One Call notification center; operates the natural gas pipeline safety program; licenses and inspects state public grain warehouses and grain buyers; advocates for smart energy and telecommunications policy at the state and federal levels; educates consumers about saving energy and money (www.SDEnergySmart.com); and is a resource to landowners, communities and developers for renewable energy development (www.SDWind.com) and the build-out of our states wireless telecommunications networks.
