The ENERGY STAR Change a Light Bus Tour will kick off on ENERGY STAR Change a Light Day (October 3, 2007), travel coast to coast, and stop for events in 10 cities over a period of 20 days.
Local event sponsors have been chosen in each market to create and host exciting consumer events where the bus will stop -- to rally support to save energy at home and help prevent global warming. Each consumer event is designed to educate the public about the importance of choosing ENERGY STAR qualified lighting as a first step toward energy efficiency, and encourage individuals to take the ENERGY STAR Change a Light Pledge - a commitment to change at least one light at home to an ENERGY STAR qualified one. Events will also incorporate the importance of disposing of CFLs responsibly.
In addition, EPA will facilitate media events with local schools in 4 of the major media markets along the tour route. Events will include students and teachers, campaign spokespeople, and local leaders who will welcome the ENERGY STAR Change a Light Bus Tour to the city, discuss the importance of energy efficiency, and encourage members of their community to take the ENERGY STAR Change a Light Pledge. Students will also be able to visit the bus' traveling Education Center, sponsored by ENERGY STAR award-winning partner JCPenney, and present special projects on energy efficiency.
