Compared to standard models, ENERGY STAR labeled commercial refrigerators and freezers can lead to energy savings of as much as 35 percent with a 1.3 year payback.

  • EPA considering expanding to flake and nugget machines in 2009/2010.
  • Products must not exceed maximum energy use limit (kWh/100lbs ice), as determined by harvest rate (lbs ice/day) and equipment type. Units also must meet potable water use limits. Only air-cooled, cube type units may qualify.
  • Commercial ice machines that have earned the ENERGY STAR are on average 15 percent more energy efficient and 10 percent more water-efficient than standard models.
