Date Joined: October 26, 2005

The Alliance to Save Energy is incorporating the ENERGY STAR Challenge into its Green Schools Program, which encourages K-12 school districts to improve the efficiency of their buildings by adopting good energy management practices. In partnership with EPA, the Alliance will:

  • Help train Green Schools participants to use the ENERGY STAR rating system to measure their energy efficiency and identify the best opportunities for improvement;
  • Encourage school districts to improve their energy efficiency by at least 10 percent;
  • Provide guidance to school districts to help them procure ENERGY STAR qualified products; and
  • Build student awareness about the need to use energy efficiently and educate them about the relationship between energy efficiency and the environment.

The Alliance to Save Energy is a coalition of prominent business, government, environmental, and consumer leaders who promote the efficient and clean use of energy worldwide to benefit consumers, the environment, the economy, and national security. K-12 schools participating in the Alliance's Green Schools Program bring students together to develop and implement energy saving activities, using hands-on, real-world projects to strengthen academic learning.
