Formosa Plastics Corporation, Louisiana is a major U.S. manufacturer of both finished Suspension PVC resin and intermediate raw materials such as vinyl monomer, which are shipped to customers throughout the country and worldwide. The plant also operates a fully integrated cogeneration system, which increases the efficiency of its operations by centrally generating its own steam and electricity. In addition, the facility is continuously identifying, evaluating, and implementing cost effective efficiency upgrade projects. Formosa is fully committed to the concept that increasing energy efficiency improves profitability, conserves vital national resources, and results in a positive impact on the environment.
The plant is active in waste minimization as a member of the Louisiana Environmental Leadership Program, and has been awarded the Governor's Award for Pollution Prevention. The company is also committed to its behavior-based safety program, and has long surpassed the 2007 safety milestone of 1,000,000 man-hours without a lost-time injury.
By partnering with the EPA's ENERGY STAR Program and now participating in the ENERGY STAR Challenge, Formosa intends to further improve the efficiency of its operations while also promoting the program's concepts through its 220 site employees as well as to its external customers, industry & trade contacts, and the regional community. Utilizing selective media announcements, Formosa will encourage participation in the program, promote the program's efficiency concepts, and publicize success of its own achievements through its involvement.
