Last summer, Polaris Career Center implemented several building-wide energy savings upgrades, including new lighting, new boilers, a state-of-the-art energy management system, sky lights in the first floor labs, LED lighting in the parking lots and duct repair work throughout the building.
Through the first six months of the performance period, Polaris Career Center has reduced energy consumption by 29 percent and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 136 passenger vehicles. It gets better; since February, the energy savings has jumped even higher, to 40 percent.
The competition has created an environment where all of the employees at Polaris Career Center think about how they as individuals can make a difference (sometimes in seemingly small ways) and conserve energy.
Polaris Career Center has sent out news releases, tweets, Facebook posts and staff e-mails to promote its participation in the National Building Competition: Battle of the Buildings. In addition, the team has scrolling messages running on a large external sign promoting the third place position of the Center among K-12 schools at the midpoint of the competition.
