Briefly describe 3 projects your organization has undertaken during the 2011 ENERGY STAR National Building Competition to improve your building’s energy efficiency.

Through its "Be an Energy Star!" program, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital’s Green Team motivated hospital employees to pledge their support to save energy and get involved with the energy efficiency efforts underway.

The Energy Team’s “Nuts & Bolts” committee is maximizing hospital efficiency through a complete lighting retrofit by Lightyear Technologies that includes solar powered motion/daylight harvesting sensors and low mercury, extended life, lighting.

The hospital has partnered with ecoPreserve, a sustainability consulting firm that focuses on building certification, employee engagement programs, and operational efficiency of existing buildings.

How has the 2011 ENERGY STAR National Building Competition made a difference in your organization’s efforts to save energy?

The competition has brought energy efficiency and sustainable building operations to center stage, further empowering the hardworking individuals in the Green Team. Through this initiative, various departments at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital have united with a shared goal of sustainability, backed by top leadership.  Mechanical and staff engagement projects throughout the 550,000 sq. ft. flagship facility have inspired the interest of staff, patients and visitors alike. In the coming months, Orlando Health hopes to implement the proven strategies at several other hospitals.

Briefly describe ways you have engaged your community in your efforts during the 2011 ENERGY STAR National Building Competition (e.g. events, posters, signs, contests, open houses, web forums, etc).

The hospital has used social media and created short videos to promote the ways they are saving energy. On Earth Day, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital rallied employees, doctors, and patients to save energy and celebrated their participation in the competition. The event was covered on local news stations and Florida MD Magazine.
