Sears became an ENERGY STAR partner in December 1998. In recognition of their commitment to promoting energy efficiency, EPA and DOE have named Sears the ENERGY STAR Retail Partner of the Year for three years in a row -- 1999, 2000, and 2001. Sears actively promotes ENERGY STAR qualified appliances, consumer electronics, office equipment, and heating and cooling equipment. Sears displays and sells ENERGY STAR qualifying products in its 863 full-line stores nationally; in more than 248 Sears Hardware and Orchard Supply Hardware stores; in 792 Sears Dealer stores nationwide, and online at www.sears.com. The company's stated goal in the year 2000 and 2001 was to sell more than one million ENERGY STAR qualified appliances. Sears offers the largest selection of ENERGY STAR qualified products of any national retail chain, and identifies ENERGY STAR qualification as a key feature on products on its showroom floors. New qualified products are being labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo on the FTC EnergyGuide label as well. Sears is the largest appliance retailer in the United States, with about a 38 percent market share overall. In addition, Sears? private label Kenmore is the top selling brand in the market. Sears? revenues from major appliance sales in 1999 was $6.825 billion.
