The Ichabod Crane Central School District (ICSD) educates approximately 1,900 students in school buildings totaling more than 290,000 square feet of floor space. The district is dedicated to preparing all students to meet the challenges of the future and to appreciate the value of life by nurturing each individual's unique talents, instilling a desire for lifelong learning, and fostering a strong spirit of community. An ENERGY STAR Partner since 2006, the district's success in energy efficiency is largely due to a commitment by the Board of Education and administration to make energy efficiency and sustainability a major priority.

Ichabod Crane Central School District has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving energy efficiency by more than 30 percent compared to a 2005 baseline and as a Top Performer for achieving an average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 96 across its portfolio of buildings. District administrators attribute this success to the cooperative efforts of more than 350 employees committed to improving energy efficiency in daily operations, as well as to Operation and Maintenance department employees who optimize energy efficiency in all mechanical systems, comfort systems, and lighting schedules inside buildings and on the grounds. As further testament to its commitment to a cleaner environment, all schools in the district have earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance. Compared to its 2005 baseline, the district currently prevents the annual emissions of more than 460 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 11,900 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years.
