Travis Unified School District is a small district in Solano County, California, located next to Travis Air Force Base. It proudly serves over 5,100 military and civilian students in schools encompassing more than 515,000 square feet. The district's educators and administrators pride themselves on maintaining high standards in academics and athletics in each of their K-12 schools. They focus on instructional excellence as a means of increasing student achievement, ensuring a safe and productive environment, and fostering constructive communication. They also aim to create, enhance, and modernize facilities that support lifelong education programs. In support of this goal, the district partnered with Energy Education to enhance the educational environment and produce energy and financial savings for the district. The district has been an ENERGY STAR partner since 2011.
Travis Unified School District has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Top Performer for achieving an average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 94 across its portfolio of buildings. The district recently upgraded the energy management systems (EMS) at four school sites and is currently commissioning rooftop HVAC equipment at five school sites for improved energy-efficient operation. The upgrade includes new thermostats with energy-efficient controls. The district has also experienced savings as a result of its people-based energy management plan. Since its baseline period, the district has eliminated over 450 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 11,500 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years. The district's staff members, students, and leadership will continue to support energy efficiency efforts with solar panels, wind turbines, and recycling efforts that will enhance the environment now and into the future.
