Eden Prairie Schools Independent School District 272 serves approximately 9,400 students across eight schools. Officials at Eden Prairie Schools partnered with Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy to implement their energy efficiency program.
Eden Prairie Schools ISD 272 has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving its energy performance by 20 percent across its portfolio of buildings. The district has also earned Top Performer recognition twice for achieving a portfolio-wide average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 75 or above, and as a Leader for improving its efficiency by more than 10 percent in 2006. Additionally, five of the district's buildings have earned the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance. The district has avoided annual greenhouse gas emissions of almost 2.400 metric tons, the equivalent of planting 500 acres of trees. The district has realized an energy cost avoidance of over $2 million during the past 4 years and has reinvested nearly $100,000 from equipment rebates into automation and lighting upgrades. As the district looks to save even more energy, the facilities management team will work very closely with Principals to implement an emphasis on student involvement.
Eden Prairie Schools joined the ENERGY STAR program in 2005.
