Little Lake City School District, located in Southern California, educates approximately 5,000 students across nine schools. In June 2009, the district retained Energy Education, Inc. and began implementing the company's people-driven transformational energy management process. The successful partnership has led to increased energy efficiency and has instilled a sustainable energy ethic throughout the district.

 

Little Lake City School District has earned EPA's ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition for improving its energy efficiency by more than 30 percent across its portfolio of buildings. The district has previously been recognized as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving its efficiency by more than 10 percent and as a Top Performer for achieving a portfolio-wide average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 94. Since 2009, the district has realized more than $445,000 in avoided energy costs and has reduced its annual greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 515 metric tons. This is the equivalent of planting more than 13,140 trees! Staff, faculty, and students at Little Lake City School District have implemented hundreds of improvements in energy consumption habits. The district's success began with a commitment by the superintendent, who appointed a district-wide energy manager to implement a comprehensive energy management program as prescribed by Energy Education.
