Its 15 school buildings have 1,908,000 square feet to condition and light. Responsible energy use and energy efficiency have been a priority for Lakeville Area Public Schools. In early 2010 the district started working with Schools for Energy Efficiency® (SEE) to implement its energy management program across the district's facilities.
Lakeville Area Public School District has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leaders Top Performer for achieving a portfolio-wide energy performance rating of 75. The district has avoided greenhouse gas emissions of more than 600 metric tons, the equivalent of planting more than 125 acres of trees every year. Lakeville Area Public School District has adopted an updated energy policy. It has adjusted set points and energy management system schedules, reduced unnecessary lighting in some areas, and started and energy awareness campaign in each of its buildings. In the coming year, each building will have a site team responsible for energy reduction in their facility. The district's goal is to reduce its energy use by 10 percent during the next 12 months.
