An ENERGY STAR partner since 2005, Walled Lake Consolidated Schools is the largest school district in Oakland County, MI, and educates more than 15,000 students in 22 school buildings. The mission of Walled Lake Consolidated Schools is to work in partnership with parents and the community to become the best educational system in America so all students demonstrate they are caring, responsible, and knowledgeable citizens. As part of this mission, district officials believe that an organization-wide energy management approach helps to enhance financial health, increase value, and protect the environment through the continuous improvement of energy performance.

 Walled Lake Consolidated Schools has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leaders Top Performer for achieving a portfolio-wide energy performance rating of 86. The district previously earned this recognition in 2008 and was also recognized the same year for improving energy performance by 30 percent. Twenty of the district's 22 school buildings have earned the ENERGY STAR as a result of this increase in energy efficiency. Staff, faculty, and students in the district have implemented hundreds of improvements in energy consumption habits. Their energy improvement efforts, along with a partnership with Energy Education, Inc., have reduced carbon emissions by more than 15,000 metric tons annually, the equivalent of planting more than 3,500 acres of trees.
