In June, 2006 Lorain City Schools, which educates approximately 8500 students, retained Energy Education and began implementing the company's people-driven Transformational Energy Management Process. The successful partnership has led to increased energy efficiency and has instilled a sustainable energy ethic throughout the district's 18 schools.
Lorain City Schools has earned ENERGY STAR Top Performer recognition for improving its energy efficiency by more than 20 percent across its portfolio of buildings. Since December, 2006, Lorain City Schools has realized more than $2,000,000 in energy savings and has avoided annual greenhouse gas emissions of more than 2,000 metric tons, the environmental equivalent of planting more than 600 acres of trees each year. Staff, faculty and students at Lorain City Schools have implemented hundreds of improvements in energy consumption habits. Energy efficiency efforts have been led by the district's energy educator/manager with ongoing on-site training and oversight from Energy Education's engineers and specialists. Lorain City Schools joined the ENERGY STAR program in 2008.
