Set-top Box (STB) Specification & Service Provider Requirements

The Version 2.0 ENERGY STAR STB specification is currently being revised in order to complete the development of Tier 2 program requirements. EPA intends to confirm the appropriateness of Tier 2 requirements that were set during the Tier 1 specification development process, determine power allowances for features like DOCSIS that were note previously included in the specification, and evaluate the addition of new product types to the program scope. EPA anticipates completing revisions to STB requirements early in 2010, to be followed by discussion of revised requirements for Service Providers for 2011 and beyond. To be added to the product development email distribution list, please send your full contact information to STBs@energystar.gov. If you have any questions, you may contact Kathleen Vokes, US EPA, at vokes.kathleen@epa.gov.

ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 Set-top Box Data Collection Information

EPA is seeking test data for products that are being considered for inclusion in the next revision of the specification, including products currently covered by the STB specification and IP STBs that are sold outside of a dedicated service provider contract. The test data will be used to inform the development of requirements and qualification criteria for all products in Version 3.0. Below, you will find the latest ENERGY STAR STB test procedure (modified to include references to some new technologies that are under evaluation) and a data collection form for documenting test results. Data submissions are due to EPA no later than January 5, 2010.
