Scope

Database includes qualified models from most appliance manufacturers.

Search criteria include:

  1. Brand
  2. Model Number
  3. Configuration
  4. Volume (cubic feet)

Resulting list provides the following information that can be sorted:

  1. Brand
  2. Model Number
  3. Configuration
  4. Volume (cubic feet)
  5. Ice (i.e., the presence of a through-the-door ice dispenser)
  6. Annual Energy Consumption (kWh/year)
  7. Applicable federal standard (kWh/year)
  8. Percent less energy than federal standard

Original Data Source

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) obtains data from the Federal Trade Commission or from manufacturers.

Update Frequency

Updated as manufacturers report new information.

How to Access

Downloadable via an on-line bulletin board service by dialing (916) 654-4069.

A “Read Me” file describes all of the information available and gives instructions for downloading and use of the database files, including file decompression procedures. The fields in each database are described in a separate text file. Three-letter codes for manufacturer names and brand names, for all product types together, are listed in alphabetical order in two separate text files containing approximately 1,500 names and codes.

Scope

On-line listing includes hundreds of residential models that have efficiencies at least 15 % better than federal and California standards.

Categories cover bottom freezer, side-by-side, top freezer, with/without through-the-door ice, etc.

Information fields include:

  1. Brand name
  2. Defrost type (manual, partial, automatic)
  3. Model number
  4. Volume
  5. Annual energy consumption
  6. Annual energy cost (based on $0.11/kWh)
  7. Percent better than standard efficiency
  • Models are listed in order of descending order of energy efficiency

Downloadable file includes both residential and non-residential-type models and contains thousands of models that meet minimum federal and California standards (available in DBF, comma-delimited, or ASCII format).

  • Includes refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers in one file

Approximately 400 models from 6 manufacturers are non-residential-type units.

  • grouped and arranged alphabetically by brand, listing each unit by model number
