A gifted class of 5th and 6th graders at Kennedy Middle Grade School in Kankakee, Illinois was a driving force in collecting pledges this past year. The class studied energy as a part of their science curriculum and were assigned a project to educate others about why – as individuals and as a nation – we need to use energy efficiently. Five groups of students gave a presentation to different decision making groups in the community including; the Kiwanis, two different Rotary groups, the City of Kankakees City Council, Kankakee Countys County Board, Kankakee School District #111s School Board, as well as several other groups. After their presentations, the students asked the adults to sign the ENERGY STAR Pledge and as a result they collected well over 200 pledges for Kennedy Middle Schools pledge driver program.
