ENERGY STAR Certified Product Information

ENERGY STAR is the trusted, government-backed symbol for energy efficient products. To ensure consumer confidence in the ENERGY STAR label, EPA requires all ENERGY STAR products to be third-party certified.

2. MAINTAINING THE INTEGRITY OF ENERGY STAR

EPA monitors ENERGY STAR labeled product models through a variety of market surveillance activities, including verification testing.

  • Models that fail to meet ENERGY STAR requirements are subject to EPA's disqualification procedures.
  • Manufacturers that fail to fulfill their ENERGY STAR partnership commitments are subject to EPA compliance actions. Energy efficiency program sponsors should note that:
    • Once a year in March, manufacturers who fail to submit unit shipment data are temporarily removed from the ENERGY STAR partner list, and their products removed from the qualifying products lists. Partners who subsequently fulfill this requirement have both their partnership and products restored to the ENERGY STAR website.
    • Occasionally, there are other manufacturers that have issues with fulfilling their partnership requirements and similarly, they are temporarily removed from the ENERGY STAR partner list, and their products removed from the qualifying products lists. Again, once they fulfill the requirement(s) in question, they have both their partnership and products restored to the ENERGY STAR website.

    Note: model numbers associated with disqualified products may not be re-purposed for future product certifications.
