Luminaires Specification

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • Partners may now qualify products using the new Luminaires V1.1 specification.
  • Partners may also continue to qualify products using the existing Residential Light Fixture (RLF) V4.2 and Solid State Lighting Luminaires (SSL) V1.3 specifications, until September 15, 2011.
  • After September 15, the Luminaires V1.1 specification will be the primary specification available for the qualification of luminaires; certification bodies will be asked to stop certifying using the old specifications with one exception: the Solid State Lighting Luminaires specification (SSL V1.3) will be available for the qualification of solid state lighting ceiling-mounted luminaires with diffusers, solid state outdoor wall-mounted porch lights and solid state residential grade task lights. This exception will be in place until IES LM-82 is published and LM-82 testing is available at EPA-recognized laboratories.
  • After September 15, no new GU24-based integrated fluorescent lamps will be qualified (using the RLF V4.2 specification, table 3), until the ENERGY STAR Lamps V1.1 specification is finalized.
  • Packaging for products qualified using the RLF V4.2 and SSL V1.3 specifications and manufactured before April 1, 2012 may continue to carry the ENERGY STAR label. This includes GU24 based integrated fluorescent lamps qualified using the RLF V4.2 specification, table 3.
  • The April 1, 2012 effective date of the Luminaires V1.1 specification means that to carry the ENERGY STAR mark, products manufactured on or after April 1, 2012 must be certified to meet the Luminaires specification.
  • Products qualified using the old specifications will not be 'grandfathered' onto the Luminaires qualifying product list.
  • The RLF and SSL qualified products lists will be archived on the ENERGY STAR website after April 1, 2012, for reference by utilities and energy efficiency program sponsors.

The Version 1.0 ENERGY STAR Luminaires specification was finalized on February 16, 2011, and was subsequently revised to version 1.1 which will take effect on April 1, 2012. The Luminaires V1.1 specification will replace the Residential Light Fixtures (RLF, V4.2) and Solid State Lighting Luminaires (SSL, V1.3) specifications. Materials related to this revision process are provided below.
