Use Energy Design Guidance
An essential element of certifying building performance is energy use benchmarking through measurement and verification (M&V). The purpose of M&V is to: 1. verify the results and impact from implementing the energy strategies and technologies; 2. quantify energy savings from specific measures; and 3. track energy use over the life of the building. EPA's Portfolio Manager is designed to validate and document energy performance and determine the carbon impact of the building.
- Communicate the energy target of the design to the M&V team and ensure that the team understands specific performance expectations for the new building.
- Measure and verify that all building systems and major components are operating to meet the occupants' needs and energy performance goals.
- Document how actual energy performance compares to the design.
- Use EPA's Web-based Portfolio Manager to track and rate annual energy consumption. Portfolio Manager uses the same as Target Finder.
