20-percent recognition through the ENERGY STAR National Building Competition

EPA's ENERGY STAR National Building Competition logoEach year, EPA hosts the ENERGY STAR National Building Competition, a coast-to-coast contest among commercial buildings to see who can reduce their energy waste the most. Styled after The Biggest Loser, competitors track their energy use in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and participate in weigh-ins throughout the competition. At the end of the competition, the building that reduces its energy use the most on a percentage basis is declared the winner.

In addition to the biggest energy loser, EPA recognizes several other winner categories through the competition. While every season is a little different, if you achieve a 20-percent reduction during the year-long competition, you’ll be eligible for recognition from EPA.

It’s a great way to have fun, save energy and money, and shine a light on your achievements for all to see!
